The Canadian Iraqi Medical Society

CIMS is a professional, educational & cultural organization founded to bring all Canadian Medical Professional of Iraqi origin together to enhance networking, & professional development for existing physicians, as well mentorship for the non-practicing ones.Our member base extends mainly in Ontario, Newfoundland as well limited numbers from BC, NB, NS & AB. CIMS annual events starts from September to the end of May and includes Annual General Meeting, Annual Gala, and monthly continued professional development sessions, as well as two family events.

CIMS Objectives

Non for profit, non-governmental and non-political organization.
The registered office of the Society is located in Hamilton, Ontario Canada.
Eligible to receive grants and donations from any individual, institution or government for the implementation of its goals.
Joint social and scientific programs inside or outside Canada.
Working in accordance to the Canadian Constitution and regulations.

CIMS Immediate Goals

Friendly supportive network amongst Canadian Iraqi medical doctors.
Fostering educational programs allowing members to continue their professional development.
Organizing social events to recognize the Iraqi diverse cultures.
Developing mentorship programs to assist Iraqi IMGs obtaining educational material and career advice in order to become licensed medical practitioners in Canada.

CIMS Long Terms Goals

Working collaboratively with other partner organizations in order to build up social capital in Canada.
To lobby Medical Associations to develop and maintain a transparent equivalency program that will allow the credentials of Iraqi IMGs a fair opportunity to get licensed in Canada.
To address the acute shortage of doctors in Canada, and to assist in developing excellence in patient care.
